The Polo Fire Protection District is managed by an elected Fire Board of five Trustees. The district is funded primarily by property tax money collected by the four counties the fire district is in. The district operates a paid on call fire department and a full time 24/7 advanced life support ambulance service. The district protects the City of Polo as well as the townships of Buffalo, Brookville, Eagle Point, Grand Detour, Lincoln, Pine Creek, and Woosung in an area that covers 144 sq. miles and a population of 4500. The district is within the counties of Ogle, Carroll, Whiteside, and Lee. The district is staffed by 6 Officers, 8 Firefighter/EMTs, 9 Firefighters, and 5 Paramedics.
